Hands-on Workshop:
Introduction to MotherDuck

MotherDuck is a serverless data warehouse built on the fast in-process database DuckDB. The service simplifies data analysis with a hybrid architecture that combines local processing on your machine with the benefits of a centralized cloud platform, such as storage and user management.

In this compact, hands-on workshop, we will guide you through the entire process. Using your own data (“Bring Your Own Data”), we will set up MotherDuck, load and analyze your data with SQL, and connect your BI tool for an initial visualization.

• Introduction to the concepts: We clarify the basics: What is DuckDB, what is MotherDuck, and what is dual execution?
• Practical setup: Together, we create your MotherDuck account, install the DuckDB CLI, and establish the connection.
• Data upload and analysis: You will upload your own CSV or Parquet files to the platform and perform initial SQL analyses. In doing so, you will experience the interaction between local and cloud processing.
• BI integration: If possible, we will connect MotherDuck to your BI tool (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) and work with you to create an initial dashboard based on your data.
• Solution consulting: Finally, we will discuss how the prototype can serve as a basis for productive use cases and outline possible next steps.
